As you are hopefully aware, The BSO is all about choice and being completely honest. As we are aware that Business Legal Protection Schemes are now provided by lots of organisations (admittedly with varying levels of cover), we had no intention of forcing you to pay for another legal scheme.

That's why we created two types of membership. Standard and Premium. Premium includes the legal scheme, Standard doesn't.

So, most of what is included in this page is only available to PREMIUM MEMBERS.

However, should you find yourself in a pickle, or simply need some support we have a host of local contacts who can help - most with a genuine discount for members, simply call us for details.

And remember, should you want to upgrade your membership, we can at any point (subject to a bit of fair usage - ie, you can't upgrade when you're about to have an employment tribunal start - that'd be a bit naughty.

The BSO Legal Protection Scheme.

NOTE - This is only available for Premium Members, unless specifically stated.

Our scheme is provided on the whole by DAS, with a few individual services provided by local suppliers - should you have any suggestions for what could/be added please contact us.

There are 3 main parts to our scheme - Legal Helplines, Documentation and Legal Protection Insurance, with the level of cover provided by the insurance element being £100,000 per case, up to £1,000,000 per year

Helplines

For members we have 3 specific helplines, Legal Advise Service, Tax Advise Service and a Counselling Service.

The helpline numbers for your members are as follows;

Should you need to make a claim against our policy after making a claim you'll need to quote our policy number: TS5/6940439

The Legal Advise Service

DAS provide confidential legal advice over the phone on any commercial legal problem affecting the business, under the laws of any European Union country, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, Switzerland and Norway.

Wherever possible the Legal Advice helpline aims to provide immediate advice from a qualified legal advisor. However if this is not possible they will arrange a call back at a time to suit you.

DAS's legal advisors provide advice on the laws of England and Wales 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Where advice is sought in an area of law beyond this jurisdiction or in respect of very specialist matters, we will refer you to one of our specialist advisors. This will include European law and certain areas of law for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Specialist advice is provided 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public and bank holidays. If calls are made outside these times, we will call you back

Tax Advise Service

DAS offer confidential advice over the phone on any tax matters affecting the business, under the laws of the United Kingdom.

Tax advice is provided by tax advisors 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public and bank holidays. If calls are made outside these times, we will call you back.

Counselling Service

DAS will provide your employees (including any members of their immediate family who permanently live with them) with a confidential counselling service over the phone if they are aged 18 or over (or aged between 16 and 18 and in full-time employment) including, where appropriate, onward referral to relevant voluntary and/or professional services.

Any costs arising from the use of these referral services will not be paid by DAS.

The counselling service helpline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The BSO Document service is provided by DAS as part of our service to Premium Members. Many documents can be accessed free of charge, with additional documents available at a small charge.

Our Commercial Legal Protection scheme is again provided by DAS. The full Policy can be downloaded HERE and covers many area's of your business.

Whilst many cases can be covered by the DAS scheme under the contract disputes section of the policy we are aware that it is likely that you'll have someone who just doesn't pay.

This isn't insured by DAS, and can be a costly insurance scheme.

However, The BSO still has a solution for you with our arrangement with the Cardinal Partnership, a local legal services firm based in Sutton Coldfield.

Firstly, debt collection letters (subject to selected criteria), can be sent on your behalf by email free of charge. If you'd like a hardcopy, that can be provided at a small charge, with the "debt collection" element being done on a genuine no win no fee basis.
